BMW i Recommends, sparked by DAMn°.

When the BMW i3 takes to the streets in 2013, it will redefine the meaning of urban mobility thanks to a resolute focus on sustainability through zero emissions, innovative mobility services and intelligent connectivity functions.

It’s a philosophy that extends far beyond the boot and the bonnet, and sheds new light on the concept of premiumness. Smarter, more connected, gentler on precious resources from development to production and beyond, from car use to recycling. But BMW i is not the only one realigning our perceptions of luxury, value and sustainability. There are visionary products, projects and concepts fostering this paradigm shift throughout the world. Which is where iRecommends comes in – an exclusive collaboration between BMW i and the international magazine, DAMn°.

DAMn°

“I think we’ve hit a nerve and are fuelling high expectations. But that’s exactly what we set out to do.” Uwe Dreher, Head of Marketing at BMW i, understands precisely the impact of over 1 million likes for BMW i on Facebook – despite the fact that not a single BMW i has actually taken to the streets yet. “It’s about the attitude, the aspiration, the execution of design and production. Our future customers strive for a life of sustainability, for intelligent handling of resources, for visionary ideas and technology that inspires, for things that change our lives. It’s not about sacrifice. The idea with iRecommends is to show this even more emphatically: working in partnership with DAMn° magazine, we’re writing about a selection of projects that reflect this new understanding of premiumness – in the same way as BMW i, only in different areas. They’re a source of inspiration for us too, and for fans and friends of BMW i.”

“DAMn° takes off where other magazines end. It roots out discoveries that evoke a reaction because they’re innovative, different, spontaneous, visionary and distinctive – and because they pose the right questions. For example, what will be the impact and consequences of the global trend towards megacities, and how we will get around in them? This question was the very life source of BMW i. We’re united by the same aspirations,” explains Uwe Dreher, describing the new partnership with DAMn° magazine.

DAMn° magazine first rolled off the press in 2004 and is edited in Berlin, Brussels and Lisbon. Its key topics include art, design and architecture, and it enjoys an excellent reputation as an independent trendsetter. As part of the iRecommends collaboration, DAMn° is taking an exclusive peek – on behalf of BMW i – into the ateliers and workshops of progressive masterminds throughout the world.

BMW i and SUSANNE KAUFMANN on New Paths.

As part of the market rollout of BMW i – the sustainable and visionary sub-brand from BMW – the exclusive Austrian natural cosmetics brand Susanne Kaufmann is developing the innovative product concept “Purif-i“.

BMW i and SUSANNE KAUFMANN

Purif-i is a hand tonic with an entirely new combination of active ingredients: it sanitizes the hands without drying them out and also nourishes and cares for them intensively. The product Purif-i is based on exclusively natural ingredients, with different properties that enhance each other. The BMW i target group - modern, urban, sustainably-minded people – is permanently in search of products that make life in big cities easier on the one hand while pampering them and simultaneously minimizing environmental impact on the other. And that is precisely what Purif-i delivers, because it is composed entirely of herbal extracts and a combination of intelligent, superactive single substances. With the aid of alcohol extracts from plants it has an intensive disinfectant effect, while caring for the hands with liquid silk proteins and protecting them from drying out. Since it requires no water or a towel, it can be used anywhere and anytime.

Susanne Kaufmann and BMW i decided on this joint venture because both brands are following the same philosophy and thus appeal to identical target groups. Both brands are key in implementing the vision of a sustainable future where environmental compatibility, individual freedom and luxury are not conflicting aims. This cooperation between a natural cosmetics manufacturer and the innovative BMW i mobility brand is breaking new ground and making it clear that far from being in conflict, nature and technology can enhance each other most effectively.

Purif-i will be presented to the press and selected customers in October and November of this year in New York, Berlin and Hong Kong. In New York the BMW Guggenheim Lab is being made available specially for the purpose. A panel discussion chaired by Jane Larkworthy (Beauty Editor of W) will focus on the topic of „New Paths“ in sustainability marketing. In Berlin, „New Paths“ will be examined from the artistic aspect. Tiefschwarz will be enveloping the product in a „Sound Cloud“. And Hong Kong will be focusing on the topic of retail. How? We’re not letting on just yet.
